This is a Pan-Tones cover of the Los Laikas arrangement of the tune from Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, fittingly called Sinfonia No. 40.
The clapping parts are started by a flutist, and are to be continued by the audience members. In doing this, I am seeking to blur the line between performer and audience, and have the audience be a true participant in the music.
I think as classical musicians, we are seeking to have people develop a connection to our music, and this is an idea I had to realize that desire. Most music fans have some musical abilities, and I wanted to tap into that for my arrangements.
It was tricky to figure this out in a practical sense, because I wanted the audience to be a true contributor to the sound- not simply echoing a part that a performer was already doing. At the same time, it had to be accessible enough to learn on the spot (at the performance), and not compensate the quality of the music.
This group is so fun to work with! I’m excited to share this music with you. I really enjoy listening to our practice recordings!
