Shreveport Symphony Principal Flute audition

Prelims: Mozart, Leonore solo, Faun 2-3, Voliere

Audition #28 in the books!

I was proud of my performance- I think playing those two gigs a few nights before with The Pan-Tones helped loosen up my performance chops.

I felt more musically confident and expressive than I have before, which was very exciting! I focused a lot on fundamentals leading up to the audition, which I think then let me relax at the audition itself.

I also did some mental run throughs with metronome and no instrument, which I really enjoyed! My late arrival and early audition time necessitated that option, in addition to my increased awareness of my endurance limitations.

Here’s the full recording of my audition. I played Mozart expo, Leonore solo, Faun 2-3, and Voliere.

5/23/22 Shreveport Symphony Principal Flute prelims

Expenses

$300 Lessons (2)

$93 Hotel

$50 Gas

Total: $443

I also bought some new recordings, but it’s hard to tell which ones were for this particular audition, and which were for other things. I know I purchased and listened to the entire opera Carmen.

The lessons were the most expensive part by far, but it’s not like they only apply to this one audition. They’re probably the most valuable part of the experience, so I guess it’s fitting that they cost the most too!
