I got a very enthusiastic review of my arrangements from one of my mentors 🙂
“These arrangements are absolutely phenomenal! Flutists of every level, from intermediate to professional, will enjoy these flute duo versions of this standard repertoire. I use it in my teaching at USC on a regular basis and also enjoy reading the duets with colleagues. There is nothing else like these arrangements in the repertoire! They are wonderful for flute duo performance and for teaching!!”

A little audition update
Now that I have some actual professional orchestra experience, in opera no less, I thought I would definitely be invited to the upcoming Central City Opera audition… but I was wrong! You really just never know. Of course, this has no reflection on my playing, as they have no idea what I sound like.
I had already scheduled some lessons with Helen (Principal Flute, The Dallas Opera) and started preparing the list. Since I am actually very interested in learning the opera rep, I collected 5 recent opera audition lists from around the internet, and decided to study some of the excerpts, especially those appearing on multiple lists.
This really drove home to me the lesson that I’ve learned many times throughout my career: you can never rely on someone else’s decision to develop your art. If you want to do something, figure out a way to make it happen! It might not be exactly the way you imagined, at first. Things happen in surprising ways.
