What a good looking and talented group of people! 😍
The Pan-Tones have also been recording an album, which is sounding totally awesome.
I created this group last year with the idea that more flutes should play rocking shows like Robert’s. I would go to these shows, and think, “I think I could rock up there too.” Haha!
Obviously, I love classical music, and I am not trying to deny it or minimize it in any way. But, it’s a totally different performance culture to play a bar or festival. When you’re accustomed to the strict customs of a classical performance, it actually feels pretty awkward to try to “loosen up,” banter with the audience, etc. at first!

I discovered when I started playing flute with Los Patos (Peruvian chicha/cumbia) that I could play freely and expressively, without the self-doubt and baggage I had accumulated in school. Long story short: I had experienced my fair share of rejection, which frankly prepared me well for the world of orchestral auditions!
Anyway, I hadn’t felt that way performing since high school, and I wanted to figure out how to tap into that energy and freedom for my classical performances.
Robert and Connor are trained jazz musicians and the three flutists are classically trained, so there’s a very unique combination of skills. You get the virtuosity and refinement of classical chops and the rhythmic drive of jazz/rock- best of both worlds!
We hope you can join us at Steve’s on Wednesday, February 22. If you’re not in the DFW area, you can still experience The Pan-Tones in our upcoming album 😊
