One of the creative issues I’ve been thinking about is how to get the most out of each musical project I work on, and how to create enduring work from live performance.
Right now, that often means making arrangements and videos. Once I know the music intimately, the arrangement(s) practically makes itself. It’s obvious to me which parts need to be included, and which can be eliminated- or implied.
With the nature of my work, I can get very consumed by what I’m currently working on. I like to obsess over the music- as much as I can within the time I have. This is awesome and fun and satisfying, but it also limits the quantity of music I can process at a time.
Live performance is so fleeting, but requires such a large investment of time and energy. It’s nice to be able to come out of all of that musical work with some tangible (or at least digital) products.
