[writing] Music Land, Op. 2

Welcome to Music Land, where sound has color, texture, personality, and desires. (Note: This is not to be confused with The Music World, which is known to be very tough and rather strange.)

The people of Music Land are a peculiar bunch. They choose to live their lives on the border of two lands that are often at odds- reality and imagination. Unbothered by perpetual feuding, these folks recognize a fact most wouldn’t openly admit: they have a whole lot in common.

In order to gain residency in Music Land, one must deliberately rearrange their thought processes. Sound, beauty, and expression take priority over practical concerns, which probably explains the “differentness” of Music Landers.

If you are acquainted with some of these individuals, you have likely been baffled by their decision making, which seems to run counter to logical reasoning. Considerations include “Will this fuel or drain my creative energy?” “Will I have time to practice?” “Do I feel drawn to this?”

One of their unique areas of expertise is the ability to divide time with consistent precision. Where a painter intuitively divides space without tools, a musician does with units of time. And yet, perfectly measured time and space does not always result in compelling art.

Sound is personified as Music Landers communicate about their beloved, invisible art. Colors change from dark to bright; dense to transparent. It feels warm, heavy, pointed, or smooth. It takes on personality traits: playful, aggressive, sarcastic, or sweet. Here, everything is relative, and the abstract is more precise than the absolute.

A poetic dance is performed while music is being made- individuals moving together, united by the passage of time. A dance between what is and what we aspire to be; the pull between the medium and the imagination.

We hope you find beauty in this place, where humanity can be celebrated over perfection. The music keeps minds sharp, and hearts soft. The roads may not be paved with gold, but the citizens of Music Land find abundance in creative sustenance, and a rich community of collaboration.
