I haven’t owned a green garment of clothing for several years- I have tried olive green as a neutral, or lime green as an accent. So I’m not big on St. Patrick’s day. Actually, I don’t like dress up holidays. I do like wearing nice clothes though!
But in fall/winter 2023, I noticed this deep green shade popping up in some of my favorite shops- Black Forest (according to Pantone). I think of it as the green cousin of navy.

A compliment to black
Being a professional musician, I have a lot of black garments in my closet and drawers. Although we frequently wear all black, there are different levels of formality for different types of concerts, so I like to have options. It’s very important to me to feel great in my performance clothes.
Fortunately, I love wearing black, but full black can feel a too little work-y for everyday. I prefer to mix my black garments with my other clothing, so I tend to gravitate towards neutral, minimalist colors (except for the occasional pink accent).
I choose colors such as beige, camel brown, navy, white, and grey to compliment black. For me, bright and bold colors feel too high contrast.
Enter Black Forest, which is my new favorite “neutral” to mix in with my wardrobe!
