Lessons

I offer private lessons on piano, flute, and music theory in my studio in Denton, TX (near The Juicy Pig), as well as online. I have been teaching music for over 15 years, with students ranging from age 4-adult.

Philosophy

My goal for students is to encourage their natural enthusiasm for music, and provide guidance with technique, style, and outlook. I aim to develop musicians that are self-motivated, fueled by a genuine love of music. Creating music becomes the reward in itself, no tricks or treats required.

Establishing a practice habit is essential to learning. In lessons, we develop structure and motivation for practice- it’s a fail-proof way to learn an instrument. If you’re practicing, you can’t help but learn something!

I truly believe anyone can learn or improve as a musician. Being an artist is an endless adventure, in which we learn to face, and even embrace, our demons in a relatively safe environment. We try new things, take risks, and often end up doing things we never thought we were capable of. What’s the worst that can happen? You play a few wrong notes. You restart the piece. Your ego takes a small hit, but you persevere, and in doing so, you gain confidence.

It doesn’t matter where (or when) you start- you can always move forward. Every artist must take their journey with their own two feet, but a teacher can help guide those steps.

“Alyse is incredibly patient and kind, while being adept at calibrating rigor and expectation for a student’s abilities, so that they keep growing in their musical ability. She does a wonderful job of instilling the joy of music as a part of life, rather than focusing solely on achievement and progressing through levels.

Alyse has been such a good match for our daughter’s musical progress that we have stayed with her as a music teacher for years after she moved away from our city, and their weekly virtual lessons on piano and flute have become a comforting staple in our daughter’s routine. We are grateful for the long and fruitful student/teacher relationship.”
