Oklahoma! (belated) wrap-up

Heel click!

The show closed over a month ago, so here’s my belated wrap-up.

It was so much fun! I learned a lot from the experience, and from my fellow actors. I loved getting ready in the dressing room with the ladies, fueled with adrenaline and excitement of the show. It brought me back to my ballet days.

I’ve already done two more musical theatre auditions since Oklahoma! finished. I didn’t get called back for one, and am waiting to hear back about the other.

In OK!, I had one 8 measure phrase solo in the show- a moment to display my voice, which really motivated me to work on it. I still have a lot to learn, but I’m trying to be patient, knowing many of the other musical theatre folks have been developing their voices for many years.

I often compare my skill development to a human life. It’s only been two years since I started singing, so I’m hardly even a toddler in that department.

Onstage accordion

I started accordion about 4 years ago, so that one’s in preschool 😛

Dream Ballet

Flute is an adult (27 years), piano a young adult (22 years), organ is an adolescent (12 years), and ballet is almost the same age as me (I started at 4.5 years).

I’m very happy that Denton has such a vibrant theatre. I’ve found it to be a very positive and creative community of people who really do it out of love for the art. I’m looking forward to hopefully doing another show soon (stay tuned for that!).
