Description
Developing an individual and expressive sound is a lifelong pursuit for a flutist, but it need not be a slog!
Here are nine lyrical Italian operatic melodies, transposed to all twelve keys, with a duet part in the original key.
This is helpful for getting a sense of the harmony, and fun to play with a friend, teacher, or self recording.
I highly recommend listening to great recordings of singers performing these arias- they are masters of
crafting a melody! Practice them an octave up or down, when possible, to utilize the full range of the instrument.
Shape each phrase with care, nuance, and inflection.
Strive to create a sense of effortless beauty, even in the extreme registers of the flute.
For an extra challenge, memorize and transpose the melodies in your head.
